The new fashion of the summer: the Lombardini Fragoletto™

Cantine Lombardini presented its new trademarked line “Fragoletto” at Vinitaly 2024. The idea for this product was born in 2019, just before the Covid-19 pandemic, when there began to be a decline in wine consumption especially among young people. Meeting the demands of a consumer who is increasingly aware to the origin of products was therefore essential to continue offering products in line with market trends and needs. Genuine, healthy and zero-mile products were and are the characteristics most demanded by customers, especially the younger ones.
 
Therefore, Fragoletto™ was born, a wine - and not a flavored drink - obtained by processing Lambrusco grapes, and thus a young, modern and genuine way of drinking. Our winery, active since 1925, close to its centenary, and located in the historic center of Novellara, offers it in three different versions: white, rosé and red.
Fragoletto™ rosé, produced by the Charmat method, is made from Lambrusco di Sorbara and Lambrusco Salamino grapes and is, like the red and white versions, a sweet wine (45 g/C). The color of this Fragoletto is deep pink and it has a persistent but fine mousse, given by slow, low-temperature fermentation. The nose has an intense aroma of red fruits, particularly strawberry, while on the palate the softness stands out, given by the residual sugar, which is balanced with the right acidity and freshness that cleanse the palate. This characteristic is a legacy of Lambrusco that Fragoletto shares and transforms into a distinctive trait. Excellent with vegetables, cheese and fish, this wine is also perfect with pizza stuffed with the same ingredients.
 
Red Fragoletto™ shares many characteristics with rosé, such as persistent mousse and the perfect balance between softness and acidity. The deep ruby color anticipates a wonderful aroma of underbrush, especially blackberries and raspberries, which is followed by a smooth, fresh and tenacious taste. This fine and elegant red is perfect with white meats, such as chicken, turkey and rabbit, and cheeses that aren't too aged.
 
The third is the white Fragoletto™ given by the fermentation of Lambrusco grapes vinified in white. The froth of this amabile is also fine and persistent; pale straw yellow in color, it has a delicate, fragrant nose with floral and fruity notes. Its acidity, in complete harmony with sweetness, make it a perfect wine to pair with fish, especially shellfish and raw, and fruit-based combinations.
